At Escape, we like to make things as simple and easy as possible for your clients to book the trip of a lifetime. Our straightforward insurance options help give them peace of mind so that they can make the most of their vacation.

WHAT MAKES ESCAPE DIFFERENT
• You Choose. Unlike other operators, Escape does not make additional insurance compulsory and we do not push the various options on your client. It is entirely their decision which combination suits their budget, peace of mind, and any other travel insurance they may have already purchased. We do not require a bond or security deposit during your rental, but we do require a credit card on file.

• We’re Here to Help. Your client does not need to decide which option suits them best now. We will explain any queries they have at the time of pickup and they can decide at pick up if they want to take extra insurance or not.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE
• Important to Note: If your client is a U.S., Canadian, or International resident with a valid driver’s license from their respective country, and they have auto insurance or credit card insurance that provides coverage for rental vehicles, they may not have coverage for our campervans. Technically they are “conversion” vehicles, and not all rental/credit card insurance plans cover these kinds of vehicles.

• Double Check: Please advise your client to check with their insurance company prior to pick up and ask specifically if their policy includes coverage for “conversion” or “modified” vehicles. If they decline our CDW and/or SLI options, their credit card will be charged for the cost of any and all damages at return, and they will need to make a claim through their own insurance company for reimbursement.

Insurance
Am I insured for 3rd party injury or damage?

For US rentals:
The daily rate includes 3rd party minimum liability coverage to the levels set by the individual states. If your own travel insurance does not include liability coverage to $1,000,000 USD, we can offer this to you for an additional $13.99/day.

Will my own car insurance or credit card cover my insurance on the campervan during my trip?
If you are a U.S. or Canadian resident with a valid driver’s license from either country, and you have auto insurance or credit card insurance that provides full coverage for rental vehicles (including minivans), you MAY not have coverage for our campervans. It is because they might be considered “modified,” or “conversion,” vehicles,  or “recreational vehicles.” We recommend reading the fine print of your policy, and checking with your own insurance company or credit card provider prior to picking up your campervan. If you decline our CDW and/or SLI options, your credit card will be charged for the cost of any and all damages at return, and you will need to make a claim through your own insurance company for reimbursement. Generally, they don’t seem to cover it, but some do! Escape Tip: after 11 years of experience, we have found that about 99% of of the time, auto insurance and credit card insurance policies do not cover modified or conversion vehicles.

Do I have to choose all my accessories, mileage, insurance, etc. when I book or can I do it later?
You can choose all of the above either when you book or at pick up. Note that once these have been chosen at pick up and you drive away in your campervan, you cannot go back and change them.
 
What happens if I get into an accident?
We provide Roadside Assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! In the unfortunate event that you get into an accident or have an issue with your campervan, contact us as soon as possible at 877-270-8267 (US phone) or 310-672-9909 (International Phone), option 2. We also provide instructions on what to do in your Escape Plan Guidebook, which comes in all of our campervans.
 
Can I tow something behind the van?
For insurance reasons, we cannot allow you to tow anything behind our vehicles.
 
Rates & Payment:
How far in advance should I book my campervan?
Escape is typically one of the first companies to fill up. Even in the low season, our vehicles are in high demand. It is advisable to book your van prior to booking airline tickets. For the high season months (March 15 – Oct 15), it is advisable to book a few months ahead and in the low season at least a couple of weeks. If you are not that organized, contact us anyway as things can always change at the last minute and you could get lucky!
Because of our flexible cancellation policy, it is advisable to book as early as possible to ensure availability and lock in the lowest rates.
 
How much does it cost to rent a campervan?
Our daily rates fluctuate according to a variety of factors, including van model, demand, time of year, depot location, and length of trip. You can get a quick quote on our website or contact our reservations team.
 
What options do I have for extra or unlimited miles?
An estimated mileage charge is required for every rental and any miles driven over 100 miles per day are charged per mile.*  The deposit and the per mile rate is charged according to your van model.
Santa Cruz & Mavericks: the $30/day deposit covers 100 miles per day, averaged over your trip. Excess miles are charged or unused miles are refunded at $0.30 cents per mile.
Big Sur (US) & Jeep Camper: the $33/day deposit covers 100 miles per day, averaged over your trip. Excess miles are charged or unused miles are refunded at $0.33 cents per mile.
At drop off, if you have driven less than the amount covered by your deposit, you will be refunded at the corresponding mileage rate. At drop off, if you have driven more than the amount covered by the deposit, you will be charged for excess miles at the rate that corresponds with your vehicle model.
*Applies to bookings made on or after June 8, 2020 in the US.
 
What is the cancellation policy?
Effective October 1st, 2021, we will be rolling out a new flexible, low-risk cancellation policy
 
Flexible, Low-Risk Cancellation Policy
If booking is cancelled:
More than 14 days prior to pickup: No fee
Between 3-14 days before pickup: $250 deposit stays on file for a future trip
Within 2 days of pickup: 100% of total trip value is charged in full
 
Applicable to all cancellations:
This policy does not apply to previously cancelled trips, only active reservations
All changes and modifications are subject to availability
No change fees: you can modify dates, locations and vehicle model up to 2 days before pickup, subject to availability
Higher or lower rates may apply if new dates are selected & available
We recommend making changes to travel dates/locations/models as far in advance as possible to ensure availability.
Trips can not be shortened within 2 days of pickup
Deposit on file expires after 12 months of cancellation

How do I secure a campervan booking with Escape?
You may use our website or call our reservations department at 877-270-8267 opt 1 (US) or +1 (310) 672-9909 opt 1 (international) to get a quote or a booking request. There is a link inside the quote that says “Click here to turn your quote into a booking request.” The link is valid for 5 days. Once you submit your booking request, our reservations team will get back to you within 24 hours as to whether or not it has been approved. Your booking is not confirmed until our reservations team has approved it. Do not book any flights or campgrounds until your request has been confirmed.
Once it has been approved, Escape will charge a $250 USD ($400 CAD) deposit to reserve your campervan. The balance is not payable until you collect your campervan (many companies require full payment 4 weeks prior to travel). Read our full Rental Requirements for more information on booking a campervan.

Are my credit card details safe?
We maintain reasonable administrative, physical and technological measures to protect the confidentiality and security of personal information you submit on or through this site, including credit card details. Unfortunately, no website, server or database is completely secure or “hacker proof.” We, therefore, cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be disclosed, misused or lost by accident or by the unauthorized acts of others.
 
Do I need to have a credit card in order to rent a campervan?
Yes. Similar to a hotel, we require a credit card to be left electronically on file during your rental for incidentals (debit cards and Maestro cards are not accepted). The credit card holder must also be the primary renter, who is responsible for signing the agreement. We can switch the primary renter at pickup if need be. Payments may be split between guests on multiple cards.
 
You may pay for your rental by credit or debit. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover. We do not accept cash or virtual credit cards (e.g. Apple cards).
 
Is there a charge for additional drivers?
There is no additional cost for up to 4 drivers. All drivers MUST be physically present with a valid physical driver’s license (not an electronic copy/print out) at the time of pick up.

Our Denver campervan rental location is conveniently located between Denver International Airport and downtown Union Station. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the light rail in unit 504.

The easiest way to get to our rental site is to take the UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO A LINE LIGHT RAIL direct from the airport. Once you land, hop on the train in the airport (direction Union Station) and take it to the Peoria Stop (about 15-20 minutes ride). We are a 5-minute walk from there. From Union Station, it’s only 15 mins to the Peoria stop. Click HERE for more information on the train line and fares. Otherwise, Uber and Lyft are great options.

Our Los Angeles campervan rental location is close to LAX Airport and plenty of great hotels if you’re coming into town before your trip. We are also very close to the 405 freeway which will take you straight to some of the best attractions in or near Los Angeles and connects you to other major California cities.

Directions Tips:
The campervan rental site in New York is located right inside the Liberty Harbor RV park. From Newark, the best way to get to our NY hub is Uber, Lyft. or taxi.

From New York City, you have a few more options:

  • Uber, Lyft, or taxi.
  • You can take a ferry and get off at Liberty Harbor / Marin Blvd. Our rental location is a 1-minute walk from the Liberty Harbor terminal.
  • You can also take the light rail from either the World Trade Center or Christopher Street. See the NJ light rail map.
  • Adjacent to our Jersey City office is Liberty Harbor RV Park which has a large lot for overnight parking. They provide long-term parking options at a rate of $30/night. For any further questions regarding parking, please call 201-516-7500.

Our Phoenix campervan rental location is conveniently located off of Highway 10 and on East Jefferson Street.  There are two options for arriving at our rental site.

Option 1 – Uber or Lyft (recommended)

Option 2 – Take the light rail and get off at the 44th & Washington St light rail stop, which is the 2nd stop from the airport. (This route requires a 3.4 mile walk).

You can easily reach our Phoenix site from Tucson and Flagstaff.

San Diego
Our San Diego camper van rental location is:

Our campervan rental location in San Francisco is across the bay from the San Francisco International Airport. We are close to both Highway 92 and I-880, giving you easy access to other cities and major attractions in the Bay Area.

Uber or Lyft is the cheapest/quickest option to reach our rental location. If you’re using Uber, please double-check that the address matches the one listed above so that you’re not dropped off at the wrong location.

A rideshare (Uber or Lyft) from the airport midday is approx $40 and only 20-30 minutes travel time. If traveling to our San Francisco rental site by train, you may have to switch trains and UBER/LYFT from the HAYWARD BART. It is roughly $11.00 total but a much longer journey.
